Intel's processors have always been leading the way in performance. So we do expect the xolo to be extremely fast in all phone activities. And our first impressions with the phone agree.. The phone interface is fast, swift, and fluid.
Despite having single core processor, the xolo x900 beats most dual core competitor in many benchmarks tests.. This is attributed to intel's hyperthreading technology, which allows more than one task to be handled by the core at one time. Web benchmarks are also in favour of the x900.
Built according to Intel's reference , the xolo has a beautiful, (but rare 1024 by 600 pixels) 4 inch LCD display.. The aspect ratio is non standard in today's world, but can't deny the possibility of it becoming a standard.. Afterall, the phone is designed as per Intel's guidelines.
The display looks good enough, bright, good sunlight visibility.. But viewing angles are not very wide.
Gorilla glass protection provides guarentee against scratches and marks. Not having it would have only been a surprise, for gorrilla glass covering is becoming an industry standard for anything above the lower mid end.
The 8 megapixel snapper at the back, despite the high resolution, takes not-upto the mark photos. Not expecting N8 class photos from this baby, but it refuses to take any pretty shots..
The most important thing to observe while checking out a 'different' phone is app compitability. Most android apps are okay with the xolo. Since they run on java dalvik virtual machune
However some of the games that use ARM specific libraries, do not on the phone. The abnormal resolution does not help either.
It can be hoped that developers will care to port their apps to the new system..
Battery life is the most crucial factor in the smartphone race. x86 processors have always been kept away from the embedded device markets for their heavy electricity consumption. Intel claims that the new medfield platform is battery friendly. The x900 claims to deliver 14 days standby on a single full charge. Tests show that ultra heavy usage can give 5 hours approx lifetime on a single charge. It is definitely not the best, but okay enough for a higher mid end phone with 1450 mAh battery.
