The new Galaxy has a spec sheet which will blow away minds. Here are the basics.. Full specs at the bottom.

How does the device perform in real life?
Fast. Smooth. Effortless. The Exynos chipset running the device, with its 4 cores, rewrites the very definition of 'performance'. We will come to this point again.. Before that we will inspect it.. Out and in.

Design:
The new Samsung flag bearer has a new design, compared with its predecessor, the GS2. It bears some similiarity to the Galaxy Nexus, design wise(and more, later).
But unlike the Nexus, it has the traditional Samsung trio of keys at the bottom. The physical home key at the centre, flanked by the option and back keys at the sides. On the right side sits the lock key. Volume rocker is placed in the left side.. Samsung has disappointed camera fans again, by leaving out a dedicated camera key from the list.
If you feel the huge screen will make the phone dimensions larger, then you are mistaken. It is hardly bigger than the gs2. Maybe a centimeter wider and taller. Not more. This reduction in dimensions was achieved through shrinking the bexels. The S3's new human design also aids in comfortable usage.
However we can tell you, this is the extreme of the usable sizes. Any larger phone will have to be put in a seperate catogory(as the Galaxy Note.)

Display:
The display is the most important and most appealing feature of a smartphone. This phone outdoes everything with its 4.8 inch screen. The colours look cute and eye catching. Viewing angles are wide, among the very best in the industry.
One major complaint by industry watchers and geeks was the pentile matrix display as in the nexus. Unlike galaxy s2( which has full RGB matrix AMOLED display), the new baby has a pentile matrix. Meaning one-third subpixels less than competing hd screen devices( albiet with LCD screen), like HTC OneX.
But no effect is really visible unless observed from a close distance, with the screen showing contrasting colours. With a 300+ pixels per inch pixel density, the 1280 by 720 spread of pixels are decent enough for any person out there.
If you buy a phone looking at its screen, and you like the eyecatching flashy colours of LED screens, then this is your phone..

The User Interface:
The good thing with android is that each phone maker has its unique User Interface.. Samsung TouchWiz has been a part of every touchscreen based Samsung phone or tablet, save the Nexus.
The latest iteration of the TouchWiz brings quite a lot of improvement over the previous version. Engineers at Samsung have put quite extra effort to bring a feel of 'nature' into the interface..
The new lockscreen displays a lake.. When you drag your finger across the screen to unlock the phone, ripples occur on the screen giving a cool effect..
The homescreen has 5 shortcuts docked to the bottom of the screen, unlike the s2 which had only four. The one at the right end is reserved for the app drawer, while the others can be changed.
Notification bar, which displays all the new messgaes, missed calls, and also holds toggles(switches) for bluetooth, wifi etc. There is not much change here.
The app drawer holds the apps and widgets. They are sperated by tabs. Hitting the 'widgets' tab takes you to the widget part of the app drawer.
The multitasking facility is accessed via the task manager, by press holding the home key. The task manager is a vertical list of running apps. Virtue of ICS, unlike in the older gingerbread running phones.

Camera:
Samsung probably knew how much people expect from the flagship phone. Therefore the camera has seen a definite improvement. Eventhough 8mp only, the Galaxy S 3's camera has
an F/2.6 aperture, wider than S2's F/2.5.
Specs aside, shots look absolutely superb. Comparable to iPhone 4s too. Every non camera expert will surely be fully satisfied witn this camera..
The camera interface is similiar to the S2. The capture button at the right, when held in landscape, and the options to the left.

Performance, features:
The new big daddy has the guts to top every benchmark test it went through..
Real life performance is even more impressive. We never felt a lag, anywhere in the whole UI or while playing with the apps.

The new flagship has recieved some special goodies from its maker. SVoice is Samsung's answer to Siri. It is activated by double pressing the home key. Vedios show nice performance, though it did not recognise my speech at all. Maybe it is trouble with my accent. My friend here however could get it to do a few tricks.
The next goodie is Smart Stay, which uses the front camera to 'see' if the user is awake or asleep.. And if the person is sleeping, the phone closes the display( not sure about the app, did not get time to test) to conserve power..

Final words: The new Samsung flagship is all worth its name. It carries on the legacy of the original Galaxy S and the S2.. More importantly, it raises the bar for the next generation of smartphones.
